  • The BIS Program is one of the best here at Arizona State University you can recieve two concentration areas in one package. Some decide to go the route of choosing two majors which takes you almost another two years accomplish. When choosing the BIS program, there are close to a hundred different concentration areas that an individual can choose from based on their particular interests. The student picks only two concentrations and through the last years of school, they are taught how to apply these concentration areas in your career. BIS will prepare you for a career after graduation in the classroom and in an applied learning study site (of your choice) outside of the classroom.
  • I moved here from Michigan where I had already finished two years at a University. When I transfered to ASU, I had the mindset of going into Finance. Well that all changed when I spoke with a counselor at the W.P. Carey School, he had informed me of the high demand to get into the school. It would have taken me another three years to complete college. Instead I went home, did some research on the different programs offered at ASU, talked to some students and advisors, and realized that Interdisciplinary Studies degree was the best thing for me. I have enjoyed all my classes, they have interested me because I had picked my own majors. Now being at my applied study I have used some of my knowledge from past classes that have helped me in skills to get a job after graduation.

  • The BIS core courses have helped to combine these majors, really understand how to put the two concentration areas chosen and apply them to real life. All these core classes are basically a preparation for the future, they help you in mapping out your future. BIS 301 & 302 forced me to think about my future, write down all the classes that I have taken and classes that I have to take to get my degree. BIS 401 gives you the option to choose your own applied study to work for the semester. All hours are recorded, papers are written on different topics, and most importantly you get a hands on experience to really learn about a particular field you may want to get into. BIS 401 is the opportunity of getting your foot in the door of a particular career for your future. BIS 402 wraps everything up, this course makes you think outside of the box, and lets you use your creative minds to come up with ways in working in teams.

Business & Mass Communication

I have always had an interest in Business, I have always had that image in my mind of wearing a cute suit, carrying a briefcase, and working for a high end insurance company in some large city. Business courses have expanded my knowledge on ways to get ahead in this fast-track world, and maintain a self-image. Through all the Business courses that I have apprehended have assisted me in the process of planning, organizing, being team oriented, and the distribution of ideas. I chose Mass Communication because I hope to travel someday to other countries. My hopes were to learn about other countries cultures and be able to blend while traveling on Business. Mass Communication is my second concentration area that expresses globalization media as being quintessentially important to any career. I feel that this concentration area has helped me understand how different people are and maintain an understanding for them. Learning about the global media; its trends, institutions, and issues, will help me when approaching business opportunities with other countries all over the world. Mass Communication classes will help me with the communication skills during the interaction between cultural and political views across the world. The courses that I have and am are currently taken have assisted me to understand the differences among the diversity, motivations, and of how to improve different people. How you communicate with one another is determined by your perception of the relationship you have with them. Interpreting the global culture that is all around us and actually putting that information to use will determine the outcome when conducting business.

"My experience has shown me that people who are exceptionally good in business aren’t so bad because of what they know but because of their insatiable need to know more."
